Bitcoin boom: Amitabh Bachchan is now a cryptocurrency crorepati; his $250,000 investment grows to $17.5 million
Veteran Bollywood actor and host of the popular game show Kaun Banega Crorepati, Amitabh Bachchan, who through his show turned many commoners into crorepatis, recently himself became not just an ordinary but a cryptocurrency crorepati.

According to a report by The Economic Times, Amitabh Bachchan along with his son Abhishek had invested $250,000 in Singapore-based Meridian Tech way back in May 2015, which skyrocketed to $17.5 million in value on Friday.

It all happened after LongFin Corp acquired – an asset owned by Meridian Tech. The deal was materialised just two days after LogFin stock got listed on NASDAQ. Between Wednesday and Friday the stock rose by 1,000 per cent, after surging 2,500 per cent on Friday, post LongFin's announcement of acquiring Ziddu.

As a result, as soon as LongFin announced its acquisition of Ziddu, the Bachchans, who had received shares of LongFin in lieu of their Meridian Tech holding, saw their $250,000 investment inflate to $17.5 million (approximately Rs 114 crore, at the current exchange rate).

LongFin is not just the lone example of meteoric rise of a stock which can be directly attributed to the sudden boom in Blockchain and cryptocurrencies in recent times. In fact, many tech companies are adopting this new ploy of adding one or both these terms to either their names or descriptions, to give sudden boost to their stock price.

In this case also, while earlier in 2015 Ziddu was described as a "cloud storage and e-distribution startup", after its acquisition this month, its description was changed to "a Blockchain technology empowered solutions provider" that offers microfinance using "crypto currencies across continents."
