Google comes out with new update code named 'Project Owl' to curb fake news
To tackle with the problem of fake news and hate speeches and control the search results that show offensive, profane, false or outrageous information about certain topics, Google has announced some big changes in its search feature.

The Google update, with the code name "Project Owl" gives its users two new ways to report what they see as problems in the search results.

Google is also using human teams as part of an effort to get its algorithms to show more trustworthy information, Fortune reported on Tuesday.

The biggest transformation that Google did was with its auto-complete function where the search engine suggests you some options to complete your query.

"With longer-term effort in mind, today, we are taking the next step toward continuing to surface more high-quality content from the web. This includes improvements in search ranking, easier ways for people to provide direct feedback and greater transparency around how search works," Google mentioned in a post.

Google has managed to incorporate a new way, using which the users can communicate and inform Google if they encounter something objectionable or wrong. This tool now comes along with a little line that says 'report inappropriate predictions'.

If a user clicks on this line, a window pops up that allows the user to tell Google that the predictions are violent or hateful and so on.

The alternate way is of informing the search engine giant that the information boxes have some inaccurate information. The users can tell the company to respond whether they have some problem with it or the information was helpful.

The third big change incorporated into this update is that Google will start giving more credibility to the "more authoritative" information.

"We combine hundreds of signals to determine which results we show for a given query-from the freshness of the content, to the number of times your search queries appear on the page," wrote Google.
