IPL 2018 match preview: DD vs SRH - Delhi play for pride while Hyderabad within striking distance of qualifying
In a mismatching contest between table toppers and table bottomers, Sunrisers Hyderabad play against the Delhi Daredevils in match 42 of VIVO IPL 2018 at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday night.

A closer look at season 11 of the Indian Premier league so far reveals that barring one or two players, hardly any overseas cricketer has shined or made a substantial contribution. And the case has been the same with practically every team. Most of the match-winning performances have in fact come from Indian players, in most cases from youngsters who are yet to establish themselves in international cricket – Shubhman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant and K Gowtham – to name a few. Truly a positive sign for Indian cricket.

Now coming back to today's match, the Daredevils who are all but out of the contest will purely play to salvage some pride today. DD has so far managed only 3 wins from 10 matches and as a result are languishing at the bottom-most spot in the IPL 2018 points table.

However, Delhi do have something positive to take back home from their short-lived stint in season 11 of the Indian Premier League that is the consistent performance by its youngsters – Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant and skipper Shreyas Iyer. The trio have done bulk of the scoring in this IPL season for DD. But despite this what led to Delhi's undoing was the lack of contributions from its foreign players like Glenn Maxwell with the bat; Liam Plunkett and Trent Boult with the ball.

On the contrary, SRH seem to have decoded the perfect formula of success with all round performances, be it batting, bowling or fielding. Not only has the team successfully chased down high totals, their bowlers have even managed to defend moderate totals. In IPL 2018 SRH have successfully defended a total as low as 118 by bowling out the Mumbai Indians for 87 in 18.5 over, pulling off a 31-run win. A victory today would make Hyderabad the first team to secure a berth in the playoffs.
