MS Dhoni ready to establish yet another record, his 500th international appearance during second T20I between England and India
Vibrant and sensational Indian star cricketer MS Dhoni, who turns 37 tomorrow, is all set to make his 500th international appearance in the second T20I between England and India on Friday.

On Tuesday, Dhoni while playing the first T20I between India and England at Old Trafford in Manchester had set a new record for most number of stumpings (33 in T20Is). In doing so, Dhoni overtook Pakistan’s Kamran Akmal (32) to become one to have affected the most number of stumpings in T20Is.

So far, only Sachin Tendulkar (664) and Rahul Dravid (509) have played more than 500 matches for India. In Dhoni’s 499 previous appearances, he has played 90 Tests, 318 ODIs and 91 T20Is. Overall, Dhoni is the 9th cricketer to have achieved this feat.

It is pertinent to add that MS Dhoni, a Ranchi-based cricketer made his debut for the nation almost 14 years back, in 2004 during an ODI encounter against Bangladesh.

Despite the fact that Dhoni bid farewell to Test cricket in the year 2014, he carries glorious figures of more than 16000 international runs appearing against his name in all formats of the game.

Apart from these three Indian cricketers only the likes of Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Sanath Jayasuriya, Ricky Ponting, Shahid Afridi and Jacques Kallis have achieved this feat.

It is not out of place to mention that Team India is currently leading the three-match T20I series 1-0 after their remarkable eight-wicket win at Old Trafford.

The second T20I between the two sides will be played at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Friday.

Although MS Dhoni has a tremendous fan following and his millions of hardcore fans want to see him playing for ages, I honestly believe that Dhoni is going to play a decisive role in lifting the next World Cup for Team India in 2019, in England.

By that time, God knows how many more landmarks will be recorded in his name. Already, Dhoni has patented a wonderful shot called the helicopter shot. Aye, aye captain!
