Park-ish titbit: Student suicides and murders in higher education institutions
Recently, within two weeks, three students of Jaipur committed suicides. The glaring aspect that is being debated is their parents are contending that their children were killed by fellow-students and then hanged.

The case of a girls' college student found hanging in her shared hostel room even led to clashes between two groups of students after the parents of the dead girl lodged an FIR alleging that their daughter was killed by other girls and hanged while both the college management and a group of girls maintained it was a case of suicide. However, an inquiry has been instituted in the case.

This is what Swaliram, Dekhu, Pheku and Updeshu discussed in their morning walk and titbit time in the park.

Swaliram: It is alarming that more and more students are committing suicide due to the issues of pressure of studies as well as grabbing of social power by subjugating fellow students. But what could be the real reason in a recent case of alleged suicide by a girl student in her hostel room?

Dekhu: It seems that the institutions are going through a state flux due to ideological intolerance and muscle flexing which have got enhanced and even female students are also getting into a grip of it leading to induced suicides, murders touted as suicides, love tangles and depression caused due to high parental expectations and bad quality of teaching.

Pheku: The social environment and educational climate have become highly competitive and only way to succeed is the use of 'hook or / and crook' or 'quick fix solutions'. The survival principle these days is 'eliminate or you will get eliminated'.

Upeshu: The way curricula are being changed at the whims, fancies and opinions of political figures need to be stopped. Due to this the alternative views are not being accepted and ideological policing is leading to the dominance of irrationality.

Swaliram: The student clashes due to purported suicide / murder in educational institutions must make the institutional management to sit back and restructure their institutions as 'community of learners of academic subjects' and students should be inducted into institutions with an attitude of 'studentship'. The root cause is that education has lost its intrinsic quality of producing students with rational thinking.

I think, currently student life is bringing in different experiences, challenges and lessons. Hopefully, right lessons will be drawn by the teachers and the management to value life of each student.
