PM Modi releases book series on Prof MS Swaminathan
In Delhi, on May 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a two-part book series on the eminent agricultural scientist Dr MS Swaminathan and lauded his contribution in bringing about green revolution in the country.

According a press release, the two-part series titled  "M.S. Swaminathan: The Quest for a world without hunger" was  released  along with lauding the  dedication and commitment of Prof Swaminathan as a "Kisan Vaigyanik" – Farmers' Scientist; rather than just a "Krishi Vaigyanik" – Agricultural Scientist.   .

The Prime Minister said that Prof Swaminathan's speciality is that his work has been grounded in practical reality. He also appreciated the simplicity of Prof Swaminathan.

He stressed the need to extend green revolution to Eastern India and urged scientific and technological interventions  to make this a reality.

He was of the view that  a combination of modern scientific methods and traditional agricultural knowledge would bring about the best possible results.

He suggested that each district in India could have its own "Agri-Identity to  boost the marketing process, and help develop agri-clusters, on the lines of industrial clusters.

He hoped that his government's schemes related to agriculture would increase the risk-taking ability of farmers, and facilitate the process of taking innovation from "Lab to Land."
