Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2015 commences in Gujarat
The 13th edition of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention has started in Gujarat's Gandhinagar from today amid tight security in the wake of the recent suspicious terror boat incident in Arabian sea. It is a flagship event of Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA), Government of India.

The inaugural session of the 2015 Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was addressed by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. It is a three-day conclave in which more than 4,000 delegates are participating. Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, the convention venue in Gujarat's capital, is all decked up to welcome the Indian diaspora.

The main aim of the event is to connect India to its vast overseas Diaspora and bring their knowledge, expertise and skills on a common platform. It is known to be the world's largest annual gathering of people of Indian origin, aimed at enhancing networking and reinforcing commercial linkages.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the main event on January 8 and the guest of honour will be Foreign Minister of South Africa, Maite Nikoana-Mashabane and the chief guest will be President of Guyana Doland Ramotar. Ramotar will also receive the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, the highest honour conferred on overseas Indians and the people of Indian origin.

On the last day of the event, chief ministers of various states will try to attract investments from NRI delegates in their respective states.
