If a journalist has the credibility to protect the identity of his source and use the information for public interest, then top secret files automatically come to him without use of RTI, was observed by Pawan Kumar Bansal, senior journalist and author of book titled "Tips for Investigative Journalist" while interacting with the students of Mass Communication department at Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology in Hisar on Wednesday.

Providing tips to extract information from the government based on his own experience, Bansal said that an investigative journalist does a big service to the society by the way of exposing misdeeds of the governments of the day. “Unholy nexus of politicians and bureaucrats has been looting the state, hence the need of investigative journalism,” he stated.

The senior journalist also apprised the students about the writing style for the print media to make the news attractive to the readers. Bansal also informed the students about the positive and negative aspects of their closeness with the high and mighty people in politics and bureaucracy.

Stating that a journalist should have no malice and friendship with anyone as he/she should be loyal to his/her pen which, if has the ingredients of honesty and commitment in profession, is more powerful to any missile.

The head of the department of Mass Communication, Prof Vikram Kaushik, thanked Bansal while urging students to inculcate the values and ethics of journalism.
