Understanding religious and spiritual precepts of renunciation
In spirituality and many religions, renunciation is seen as abandonment of the pursuit of material comforts and sensual pleasures. It often requires getting detached from worldly life and moving towards a divine or holy life.

Renunciation leads to life devoid of the sins of body and mind with a control over self and acquiring a sense of oneness with others. According to Vedic scriptures, the ultimate renunciation is of self or ego. In Buddhism, one is required to renounce desires and gain enlightenment or 'moksha'.

However, noted philosopher and seer J Krishnamurti has a different view, that of 'balance', to self-realisation. He says, "To understand oneself profoundly, one needs balance. That is, one cannot abandon the world, hoping to understand oneself, or be so tangled in the world that there is no occasion to comprehend oneself. There must be balance, neither renunciation nor acquiescence."

Here is my non-poem on the precept of renunciation.

Seek renunciation

For its own

for its own worth.

It’s the biggest sacrifice!

Renunciation for

name, fame, gain, cause, satisfaction

is a barter

it is an exchange

it is a bargain

It’s a ritual

it is for acquisition

Seeking renunciation

inevitably leads

to sufferings,

to sorrow

to antagonism.

For renunciation

Refine the self

Transform your own self

sacrifice your present self.

Better be non-possessive

to  renounce

Be desireless

to truly renounce
