Watch out, geeks are going to inherit the Earth: It's Geek Pride Day on May 25
The internet freaks are getting ready to observe Geek Pride Day to promote geek culture on May 25.

It is said that the observance originated in Spain in 2006, and currently, has spread around the world via the Internet marked by technology workshops, tips on a leading nice digital life, role-playing games, parades, cosplay and other geeky events.

In many places, now hands-on workshops and demonstrations on a variety of digital, mobile and technology topics are organised on May 25 to mark the anniversary date of the first Star Wars film release in 1977.

I find that the geeks are the highly intelligent people who follow a pursuit with utmost craze and eccentricity who due to their contribution to technologies and intellectual pursuits have gained respect and have started taking pride in their geekiness. These days, more respectable word ‘nerd’ practically has found synonymous meaning as geek.

"Just move to the Internet, its great here. We get to live inside where the weather is always awesome," says John Green while appreciating geekiness.

Olivia Munn had once said that to her, being a nerd or a geek means having passion, power and intelligence. "Being a nerd just means there is something in the world that you care deeply about—be it twelve-sided dice, a favourite sports team, your new laptop or Night Rider," she expressed.

According to Wikipedia, there are many categories of geeks, such as: science geeks, math geeks, computer geeks, history geeks, gaming geeks, etc. The list is ever increasing. It is now an acknowledged fact that the technology oriented geeks now exert a powerful influence over the global economy and society.

Furthermore, noted author Mark Roeder, in his book “Unnatural Selection: Why the Geeks Will Inherit the Earth”, writes that the rise of the geek represents a new phase of human evolution.

There is need to respect and honour geeks since they add to diversity of human race and contribute to the society selflessly instead jeering at them as crazy people.
