The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has greeted the people on the start of holy month of Ramazan and stated, "Greetings on the start of Ramazan. May this holy month enhance the spirit of togetherness, peace and harmony across the world."
The United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has issued the statement marking the start of Ramadan saying, "On behalf of the United States Department of State, Renda and I sincerely wish Muslims around the world a peaceful and blessed Ramadan."
The World Health Organization has announced that the theme for World No Tobacco Day (WNTD), 31 May 2017, is "Tobacco ? a threat to development" to promote both health and development by confronting the global tobacco crisis.
In Sri Lanka, heavy rains, floods and massive landslides have killed around 100 people with many still missing. The rescue and relief work has started since more than 50000 people have been affected by the disaster. Several thousand people have been evacuated from the affected area.
